Untitled - Houston Temple (in progress)

I spent most of today changing the colors so it may not seem like much was added. I am still not totally satisfied, so expect the sky to keep changing.

Untitled - Houston Temple (in progress)

I started this paper collage a couple of days ago. Paper projects tend to go really slowly, but I enjoy them. With this collage of the Houston Temple, I am experimenting with a different style than my last paper project attempts. So far I have only had one successful paper collage. This time I am taking a very selective color approach. Although, now that I have spent 3 days working on the sky, I am thinking that I want to replace some of the colors- almost all of the darker blues actually. They aren't working well together and they are too green. So my next task is to find the right colors of paper.
The other debate that I am having with the collage is how far I am going to push the detail. Right now it doesn't have a lot of detail and is developing with a cartoon feel. Fortunately, detail is much easier to put on then take away. So I think I am going to keep going with the simplified shapes and keep adding detail until I am happy with it.

Windows (in progress)

I pulled this one out again and kept working on the flowers. Still a lot more to add in volume and detail.

Fountain II (In Progress)

I have been out of the studio for the last couple weeks, but was able to get back to the brush today. It might not look like much has changed, I did more little stuff and changing some colors. I did start working on the right side. The palm tree stumps got a new central color which I plan to cover up again next time. I also went back over the fountain area, the wall and the dirt. The fountain is giving me a hard time, but coming together.

Windows (in progress)

I began putting in the flowers this week. This part is going to require me to be very patient so that I don't make it too muddy or too much.

Finished Pieces

This last week, I finished three pieces. However, that number is a little misleading, since the only thing I did to finish Driving By was to decide not to cut it in half and then sign it.Driving By
(30 x 30 inches)

Fountain I - The Shaded Fountain
(12 x 12 inches)

The Great Salt Lake

Fountain II (in progress)

I have begun working on the path and the fountain. I painted over the under-painting but I am going to go over it again and again as I move toward the correct color and shading. The colors are too saturated right now, especially in the fountain.

Upgrading

I am currently working on upgrading my official website, www.broadbentfineart.com. While that site is down, I will continue making updates and post them on this blog so you can still see what I am working on.
